27 Feb Affinity celebrates 4 years in operation
Under a landmark partnering programme with the MoD, Affinity Flying Services supplies and contracts to Ascent to support three fleets of aircraft within the Military Flying Training System. The UKMFTS is a modern, collaborative and streamlined flight training solution replacing separate fixed-wing and rotary training programmes for the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Army Air Corps.
February 2016 saw Ascent, Affinity and the MOD sign the Fixed Wing Training Package Contract and marks the official date Affinity started its operations. With the ambitious goal of delivering all aircraft by November 2018, Affinity had a challenge ahead. Fast forward to 2020 and Affinity have been successful in the delivery of all 38 aircraft across 3 UK sites. A major milestone for the organisations and a fantastic achievement for the whole team.
Affinity has grown its operations rapidly and now provides significant local employment within Lincolnshire, North Wales and the surrounding areas. Starting with 18 employees who began the business, to a strong team of 120. We continue to ensure the performance requirements of our customers are met, in part, by continuing to invest in the training and development of the existing team and we will continue to seek exceptional individuals from the local areas to contribute to the existing service provision. Development of individuals forms part of Affinity’s core values; equal opportunities and career development are fundamental to our people strategy.
Affinity supply, manage and maintain the aircraft; with core capabilities including aircraft solutions & design, airworthiness & maintenance and training. As a small business supporting a large project for the Ministry of Defence we have seen growth in our scope of work, as well as increased focus on the social benefit Affinity provides locally, resulting in partnerships with the Jon Egging Trust and local charities and good causes close to the hearts of our Affinity team.
Covering RAFC Cranwell, RAF Barkston Heath Lincolnshire and RAF Valley North Wales, Affinity has three fleets of aircraft: The Grob Prefect 120TP, The Embraer Phenom 100 and The Beechcraft Texan T6C. In 2019, we achieved over 10,000 flying hours across the three fleets of aircraft and supported over 200 students flying as part of the UKMFTS and look forward to continuing to contribute greatly towards the success of the UKMFTS in 2020.
Iain Chalmers, Managing Director commented: “This year will see a significant step-up in operational activity, with even more students going through the MFTS pipeline. Affinity is ready to meet this challenge, and to promote, develop and enable excellence in aviation in all of our activities”.
Proud to support the UK Military Flying Training System
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to 2020 and the future of Affinity.
