Affinity recently made a donation of surplus survival equipment and clothing to Loyal Wingman, an aviation‑led initiative supporting Ukrainian pilots operating in challenging conditions.
The donation was made to Stuart Hulley, who leads the Loyal Wingman project. Stuart previously flew alongside Iain Chalmers, Affinity Managing Director, during their time in the military. It was through this shared operational background that the opportunity to support the initiative arose.
Loyal Wingman focuses on providing practical survival and flight equipment directly to Ukrainian aircrew and personnel, helping to ensure essential kit reaches those who need it as quickly as possible. The initiative is driven by individuals with aviation experience who understand the real‑world operational value of the equipment being donated and who prioritise getting usable, relevant kit into the right hands without delay.
Colleagues from Affinity’s AEA department played a key role in supporting the donation. Tom Meechan, AEA Manager, worked with the team to identify specialist items that could be safely and effectively repurposed. This ensured surplus equipment continued to have meaningful value beyond its original use, while supporting a focused, aviation‑informed effort delivering practical assistance where it can make a genuine difference.
By repurposing specialist survival equipment, Affinity was able to support an initiative closely aligned with its aviation expertise and values, helping ensure equipment is used where it can have the greatest impact.
