Air League Engineering Scholarship at Affinity

Air League Engineering Scholarship at Affinity

We recently had a fantastic opportunity to host a student from The Air League Engineering Scholarship at Affinity Flying Services, Cranwell. The scheme provides an annual programme of engineering scholarships offering one or two-week work placements with some of the UK’s leading aerospace companies or flying schools. Affinity hosted a two week placement which allowed a student to gain a greater understanding of engineering and flying operations within our organisation.

Abbie took part in a variety of daily tasks ranging from fault finding, data analysis, aircraft inspections and checks, succeeding in all aspects of the activities. She was allowed time with various departments, including: Training, Corporate, Engineering, Operations and Safety Equipment. This rotation allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of the business and help her look at which route she may want to take in her future engineering career.

Abbie commented Although I only spent two weeks at Affinity, I found it to be so helpful in deciding which pathway I would like to follow in my degree. I also found the experience working with the aircraft invaluable as I now have a deeper knowledge which will allow me to visualise elements of my degree work rather than it being completely theoretical. Talking to the engineers at Affinity was also an invaluable experience, they were able to provide me with advice based on their personal experience. I would definitely recommend work experience through the Air League and Affinity Flying Training Services”.

Iain Chalmers – Managing Director commented: “Thanks to the Air League for allowing us to support the scholarship programme. We are committed to providing young people the opportunity to experience, and hopefully decide to work in, the Aerospace industry. With the gradual integration of Space into the broader definition of Aerospace, we have never been a more exciting industry, where the broadest of skills and approaches can make a significant contribution to commerce, transportation, defence, security and the environment.”

We wish Abbie the best of luck in her future studies and career journey.
