03 Aug MPs visit Valley to talk Texans and Apprenticeships
On Friday 23rd July, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Apprenticeships and Skills Gillian Keegan visited Affinity Flying Services Ltd’s hangar at RAF Valley, along with Virginia Crosbie, Member of Parliament for Ynys Môn.
Virginia and Gillian met with Iain Chalmers, Managing Director and Accountable Manager for Affinity and other members of the Valley team.
After a tour of the modern facilities and a look at the Beechcraft T-6C Texan, with General Manager Vangelis Konstantinou, Iain gave an insight into how Affinity supports the MFTS programme.
He also explained that Affinity is working towards creating and introducing apprenticeship opportunities, with the view to accepting the first apprentices to the business in 2022.
He introduced the visiting MPs to Luke Fleming, Facilities Supporter at Valley, who has recently enrolled onto a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Manufacturing Operations at Coleg Menai to further his careers within the company.
Iain also explained that as a relatively new Small & Medium-Sized Enterprise, engagement with the community, supporting local employment and developing our key asset – our people – is vital to our continued growth in the sector.
Gillian Keegan commented: “It was a pleasure to meet Iain and the team at Valley today. Their support for the MFTS Programme is paving the way for future aircrews to progress successfully through their training and careers, and it was good to hear about the opportunities available to the aircrews of the future.”
Virginia Crosbie said: “I very much enjoyed the visit to Affinity to gain an insight into what one of our local businesses offer to the industry. I’d like to thank Iain and the team for taking the time to show us how they operate and wish them all the best as they look to create apprenticeship opportunities for the next generation of aircrews.”
Iain Chalmers, Affinity Managing Director said: “We were delighted to welcome our Apprenticeships Minister and local MP to Valley today and to have the opportunity to demonstrate how we are passionate about supporting employment and apprenticeships, and how we carry out our operations on a daily basis. I’d like to thank Gillian and Virginia for taking the time to visit our operations today.”
