At the start of the year, our RAF Valley Engineering Team, who are responsible for the maintenance of the Texan T6C, were honoured to be awarded Team Commendation by Air Officer Commanding Number 22 Group “for their meritorious service, which they have rendered to the Royal Air Force”.
The team received their award at the beginning of May in a prestigious ceremony at RAF Valley.
We are delighted to share the details of the team’s commendation below.
Based at RAF Valley, the Texan Operational Delivery Team plays a crucial role in the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS), ensuring the provision of airworthy, serviceable aircraft and Aircrew Equipment Assemblies as part of the Number 72 (Fighter) Squadron, responsible for delivering Basic Fast Jet Pilot training.
Since the start of their operations, the team went through a period of growth and development, whilst they became upskilled on the Texan T6C.
“Solely responsible for the provision of serviceable aircraft and Aircrew Equipment Assemblies (AEA; the safety equipment that pilots wear, such as helmets, lifesaving jackets, and immersion suits) when the Squadron started flying in February 2019, the Team had very limited experience of Texan Operations.”
Through their tenacious and proactive, positive approach, they have now delivered over 10,000 flying hours and support a daily flying programme of 30 sorties, whilst always maintaining their engineering and safety standards.
“Whilst striving to improve, the Team displayed immense moral courage by never lowering their excellent engineering and safety standards, despite significant perceived commercial and output pressure.”
“By creating a positive learning environment, Phase 1 servicings are now completed in under three weeks.”
“The Team routinely delivers 11 to 12 serviceable aircraft (of 14) and supports a daily flying program of over 30 sorties.”
This achievement is a direct reflection of the team’s integrity, passion, and proactive nature, as well as their commitment to Affinity’s ongoing business improvement efforts.
Adaptability has been a cornerstone of the team’s ethos, who quickly respond to the evolving safety requirements, training needs, and operational support requests. Their commitment extends beyond their immediate duties, actively engaging in Station requests, such as State celebrations, Royal Flypasts, and student graduations. Their involvement with the local community, through charity fundraising, STEM programme support, and educational initiatives, has not only contributed positively to the local area but also fostered a stronger bond with its members.
The investment in local talent is evident, with 7 employees achieving BTEC Level 2, and 5 apprentices completing a Licensed Aircraft Engineering course, showcasing a commitment to nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals.
“This learning journey has required tenacity and a proactive, positive approach from all members of the team, who have shown individually and collectively outstanding moral courage in the face of significant pressure. In addition, they have positively contributed to the local community and enhanced the RAF’s reputation both locally and nationally. These achievements deserve formal recognition.”
This award is a testament to the team’s dedication to excellence in every facet of their work, and recognises their holistic approach to operations, community engagement and employee development.
